Do people know what an embryo is? It doesn’t necessarily have eye balls and a spinal chord. It is anywhere from the time the zygote begins to divide until weeks after zygote formation. I have no problem with people using cells at the 4 and 8 cell stage. It is just cells and chemical signaling with no ability to feel or think. No pain, no comprehension of pain, not even “Hmmm, is THAT pain?” Nothing. It is infinitely more humane, and from my point, moral, than slaughtering animals

Stem cells can also be found in cord blood as well in low concentrations in amniotic fluid. It is a misconception that the unborn are being protected by bocking stem cell research. The fact of the matter is the unborn are not even effected. By the time a women even discovered a pregnancy she is almost always beyond the embryonic phase.
Think about it this way. And I pose a question. Birth control pills. I am willing to bet there are many people both pro life and por choice out there that take them. Is this considered an abonination? Many birth control pills block the implantation of a fertalized ovum.
Stem cells show great promise as a treatement and prevention for catotrophic disease. Embryonic stem cells are derived from embroys that were cooked up in a laboratory and not intended to come to fruition. That along with the fact that not all stem cells are derived from a viable embryo, makes me think this entire protect the unborn stance is increadibly misguided.
ABORTION has nothing to do with stem cells. An aborted fetus cannot be used for stem cells.

Religion should stay out of politics all together. I as an Australian really hope the bill passes. Stem cell research is the way of the future and embryonic stemcells are the most retrainable, they are also less likely to be rejected by HLA matched people which could lead the way to dismiss with anti rejection drugs. I would not mind at all, if I had extra embryos, that they be used for research.

In addition, it turns out cancer tumors have stem cells too. If you remove a tumor and miss a cancerous stem cell, you still have cancer; one cell can re-grow the entire tumor. But if you leave the tumor and kill just the cancerous stem cells, the tumor is absorbed by the body and you're cured! If we can find out enough about these "bad" stem cells, we might just cure certain forms of cancer. We've learned much about the signaling proteins that cells and tumors use but the system is unbelievably complex. It'll take time, money and an enlightened attitude to see us through.
