Summer Job Ideas for Budget Travelers

Can you get a job over the summer while traveling? There are plenty around and many aimed at travelers specifically. Organize your work permit and check out the local paper for jobs for travelers. You’ll be amazed at what kind of work you can find to do.

1. You could become an au pair or nanny. There are many opportunities to look after people’s other kids while traveling. Try England, South Africa or Australia for starters.

2. You could teach English. In a number of countries there are opportunities for English teachers. If you are bilingual you’ll have a much better chance of scoring one of these jobs in places like Japan.

3. How about working in a pub? In England there are opportunities for free board in pubs where you are prepared to pull a beer. Hospitality jobs are relatively easy to come by in Australia.

4. Have you ever considered working at children’s holiday camps in the USA or Russia as a camp counselor?

5. You could become a fruit picker! Get to work in the fields all over the world.

6. What about a winter holiday job? Can you ski? You can get jobs as ski or snowboard instructors in many ski resorts all over the globe.

7. How about becoming a Jack or Jillaroo on an outback station in Australia? Immerse yourself in the culture of the outback.

8. Is there work available at the hostel you are staying at? It won’t hurt to ask. Sometimes you can exchange work for free food and board or at least a reduction in the price.

Apart from paid positions, you can also get volunteer work in many places. Volunteering your services can get you free food and board. How about volunteering on a farm? Or being a hike trail or tourist guide volunteer? You’ll get to see the sights for free.

For those of you who may be looking for a more serious work/travel experience there are other opportunities. For example, can you get a transfer with your current job to an overseas position? Or do you want to do something worthwhile in your gap year? Programs are available for students to travel in their gap year and get involved in some amazing projects all over the world. You could work in the publishing industry in India or teach children with special needs. There are many organizations set up to help place people who want to broaden their horizons by volunteering their services in foreign countries.

If you think working or volunteering while you are traveling would be a possibility for you, make sure you find out if you need work permits to do so. Using your skills while traveling is a great way to save money and meet people. You’ll be rewarded in many ways.

It will make the competition a lot more interesting if the US are into it…

I don’t think he is. I believe he was there for his friend Beckham. When Becks was still with Real Madrid, there was at least one game where Tom Cruise was at the Bernabeu to watch a game.

I remember this quite clearly because, aside from seeing him on TV, one of the announcers got a little annoyed because his co-announcer kept mentioning Tom Cruise was watching lol he was like “No one cares about Tom Cruise >=[ ” or something to that effect lol

To answer your other questions, go for whoever's cheapest, because if you fly economy class transatlantic, there's not much difference among them. Try http://www.bookingbuddy.com

  14. No warp drive as of yet.

Hey, the Enterprise is not due to fly until the 23rd century, so we still have time to figure it out.

looking at your yahoo id name… i would guess you're from somewhere in south asia or middle east. then yes, you would need a US visa.

if your home country needs a visa to gain entry into the US, then you would need a visa to go to the US irregardless of your canadian PR. the US looks towards a person's country of citizenship to allow entry into their country.

it might be tough to get a tourist visa so soon though… i applied for a US tourist visa 3 months after becoming a canadian permanent resident. i was denied. i asked the consul why and he said it's too soon. that i needed to establish myself in canada before they can give me the visa. he said it's usually around 6 months that they consider established… that and a full time job.

Contact the embassy or a government immigration office. lso check out this helpful website.

    Good luck!

  17. I know that with a PR card you can travel to and from the US without much problems (make sure you have your passport with you just in case)… but that is only if it's purely for visiting. If she is planning on moving down to Seattle with you and finding a job… I think the best thing to do for her is to help her find a job before you guys move down. Therefore, the company that hires her can issue a working permit for her as well in the States. Or.. if she finds a job after the move, depending on the company, they should probably be able to do the same… but it may be a bit more difficult in terms of finding a job there and getting the company to do all the necessary documentation to keep her there.
Otherwise, if she is planning on moving down with you with no intentions of working as well.. the chances of her being able to stay for a long period of time may be kind of slim.

Yes, there are ways around it. You need to fly to Mexico first. Then from Mexico go to Cuba, but you need to bribe the immigration officials in Cuba so that they don't stamp your passport.
