Tiger Woods opened as a 5-1 golf betting favorite at online sportsbooks to win in 2010 British Open predictions which begins Thursday morning and can be seen on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC television. It is an interesting opening line because Woods is yet to win a tournament this year and has played hurt, both mentally and physically, as he has had to battle through injuries and the pain and embarrassment of his pending divorce and the ugly stories of trysts with porn stars that have damaged his once stellar reputation with the public.

Woods had to withdraw from golf betting odds in The Players Championship on May 9th due to an injury as the 34-year old he proving to no longer be an indestructible machine. Woods is still the top ranked player on the Official World Golf Ranking but is just barely ahead of rival Phil Mickelson on the chart. Woods has entered just 6 golf betting events this year and has made the cut 5 times with his best finish being 4th at the two majors he entered, The Masters and the US Open. Woods has an average score of 70.5 and total winnings this year of just over $633,000. Bet tiger wood 5-1 as a golf betting favorite in 2010 British Open predictions with up to a $250 bonus.

Woods has struggled mightily with putting so far this year, which is perhaps a tell regarding the mental strain that he is going through. Woods will have to improve on that aspect of his game as putting is considered a key to success at the St. Andrews Old Course where The Open is held for 2010. A great example of Woods putting woes was at the AT&T National where he missed a whopping 15 putts of 10 feet or less. Woods finished a humiliating 46th at the AT&T National on July 4, which was the last event that he entered. Woods has won The Open 3 times with his last title in 2006. Bet wood 5-1 as a golf betting favorite at St. Andrews in 2010 British Open predictions with up to a $250 bonus.

The hosts talk about what really happened to cause Tiger Woods to crash his car…plus the release of the 911 call. Also…the major conferences in college football will have their championship games this week to help shape up the BCS.

Help answer the question about tiger woods

Why did professional golf stake so much of its revenues on Tiger Woods?
They invested way too much with one man.

If you look at the income-generation and TV revenues of tournaments with Tiger Woods, they are up to 66% higher than tournaments without Tiger Woods.

That is an enormous gap that was not seen before the late 90′s.

Why hasn’t professional golf built up other stars and personalities who have similar popularity to Tiger Woods? Why has pro golf simply dumped all of its publicity resources onto Tiger, and let the other guys go unnoticed?

This would protect them from downturns when Tiger isn’t on the course.

While the masses clamor for viewing space outside the ropes, there are several lucky volunteers who get to see Tiger Woods up close and personal inside the ropes. And I’m not talking about the marshals that see him play one hole. I can beat that.

I’m talking about the standard bearers — the guys that carry the scoreboards along with each group, so the fans watching can see where the players stand on the day and overall.

The standard bearers get access to everything inside the ropes on the golf course. They have a spot on the tees, walk the fairways and stand beside the greens. There probably is not a single spectator at the 109th U.S. Open at Bethpage that would not trade spots with the standard bearers.

Jim Steigerwald is in charge of all of the standard bearers at this year’s Open, and he remembers the excitement of being inside the ropes alongside the players.

“I did it for Tiger’s group at Shinnecock in ’95,” he said. “I had Tiger, Nick Price and Ernie Els in the first round — what a group, what an experience!”

Now Steigerwald is in charge of who gets to walk with Tiger on the Black Course. Does he have to deal with any bribery attempts from volunteers that want to walk with the world’s No. 1?

“It’s constant,” he said.

All of that goes for naught, though, because the assignments get made three to four months in advance of the tournament.

Steigerwald pairs names with group numbers, and it is only once the USGA announces the tee times that the standard bearer actually finds out who he or she gets to walk the course with.

Like everything else at this year’s event, the weather has wreaked havoc on his assignments. It has causied some people to cancel, forcing Steigerwald to make last-minute adjustments, such as placing himself in one group.

Kyle Decanio, 32, of Setauket, N.Y., was the beneficiary of one of those cancellations. Someone else was assigned to Tiger’s group for Round 2, but did not show up.

“A kid cancelled,” Decanio said. “When that kid bailed out, I stepped up.”

Did he know who was in the group before he volunteered to step in?

“Uh, yeah, that had a little to do with it,” he replied with a smile.

So, what was the experience like?

“He’s such a nice guy, very polite,” Decanio said. “He introduced himself, said, ‘Hi, I’m Tiger.’ What am I supposed to say to that? ‘Uh, yeah, I know.’ It was just very cool.”

In Round 1, while all the players were bemoaning having to come off the course mid-round and wait around in the clubhouse to see if they would go back out or not, there was one person who was on cloud nine.

Matt Leslie, a 20-year-old from Albany, N.Y., was the standard bearer for Tiger’s group in Round 1, and he said he had a blast hanging out with the players while they waited out the rain on Thursday.

“I sat next to [Tiger] in the emergency trailer on seven [after play was initially suspended Thursday],” Leslie said. “He’s such a different person off the course. He was laughing, joking, eating Chex Mix just like anybody else. It’s like night and day between on the course and off.”

Leslie also got to wait around with his group until play was suspended for the day. He expected to get to walk 18 holes with the best golfer in the world, but getting to hang out with him in the players’ lounge was, to put it mildly, icing on the cake.

Leslie and his dad worked the merchandise tent at the U.S. Open last year at Torrey Pines. Needless to say, he had a little more exciting time this year.

So, did he grease the wheel a bit to get into Tiger’s pairing?

“You know, I went up to [Steigerwald] and asked if $20 was enough to get me Tiger’s group,” Leslie said. “He just laughed and asked my name to see who I had. I said ‘Matt Leslie,’ and he looked up Leslie and said I was in Group 7 off the first tee. It was complete luck of the draw that that was Tiger’s group.”

Leslie said that he signed up to volunteer at Bethpage before the start of the 2008 Open. So, if you want to walk the course with Tiger at Pebble Beach next year, sign up now and put “standard bearer” as your first preference. You might just get lucky enough to go inside the ropes for 18 holes with the world’s best.

Who knows? Maybe you will even get to hang out with him, too.

Imagine Tiger Woods’ instructor, Hank Haney, standing right in front of you, offering you advice on your golf game. That is exactly what happened to me at Chelsea Piers in New York in an event held in conjunction with The First Tee and FedEx.

I had the opportunity to stand within inches of one of the Top 100 instructors in the world, so what should I ask him? I thought most about my own game. Being a 14 handicap, I have alot of questions, ranging from help with basic fundamentals (for both myself and many of my listeners) right down to nitty-gritty questions about Tiger Woods.

Okay, so Mr. Haney didn’t help only me that day, his main focus was on the hundred or so kids that belong to the New York Metropolitan Chapter where he mentioned, “What could be better than to help the best player in the world and to help kids?”

The few minutes that I taped with Mr. Haney is literally a gold-mine of information which will definitely assist both the beginner and advanced amateur golfer. And yes, there is even some commentary on Tiger Woods, his philosophy and how he’s faring during his forced rest.

Thanks to Mr. Haney for helping me with my game. Barry even learned a few things from my interview! And why not? Even Tiger Woods has a coach to assist him with his game and he’s the greatest golfer on the planet.

Also, thanks to the First Tee Program and FedEx for the invite.

Nobody can always do right things, besides tiger woods.
No one can deny that he did do a great job in golf world. And he has won twice as many professional events and nearly five times as many majors as the next closest active player on Tour. While he doesn’t dominate in every area of the game, he consistently plays above his peers in five key on-course situations, which we identified after comparing Tiger against the field in every performance category monitored by the PGA Tour’s Shot Link from the start of the 2002 season to Tiger Woods final round at the 2008 U.S. Open. Four of Tiger’s five key strengths — the areas in which he’s statistically light years ahead of the field — have nothing to do with power, proving you don’t need to swing at 125 mph or drop 4-iron shots like they’re landing on a pile of laundry to score like the No. 1 player in the world. All you need is his strategy and smarts — the stuff anyone can work on — and a few new options in your short game.

Key 1: He hits the green even when his tee shots miss

Key 2: He knocks it extra-stiff from short range

Key 3: He controls the damage when he misses greens

Key 4: He has a wider “make range” when he putts

Key 5: He dominates the easy holes

You may want to know how. The answer can not be any simpler and that is to come back here on time, because this article does not end at all.

It’s easy to see why professional golfers become distracted when Tiger Woods is somewhere in the pack. If he’s only a few strokes back, chances are his resolve will carry him to victory. That is precisely what happened this weekend at the Dubai Desert Classic.

On the flip side, no one seems to be afraid of Phil Mickelson.

J.B. Holmes’ memories of a 2006 victory at the FBR Open was all he needed to maintain his purpose for this year’s event. And, the claim to fame that he beat Mickelson was also a good incentive.

Phil’s putter let him down once again claiming that a misread putt and a few that “slid by the edge” contributed to a playoff. Although Butch Harmon has been working with Mickelson on his 150-yard approach shots, Lefty found that his golf ball wasn’t as close to the hole as was Na’s. That must have also frustrated him.

This week on our Golf for Beginners podcast we discuss Mickelson’s views from the putter. Is it better to keep your eyes over, or behind, the ball?

We also talk about how the amateur golfer can use Tiger Woods’ scrambling ability and tenacity to improve your own game.

****************************************

Michelle Wie takes center stage once again as she receives an exemption to the Fields Open. Has her physical injury healed? Has her mental game improved? All questions will be answered in two weeks.

Laura Davies believes that psychological damage that Michelle Wie endured from playing golf in men’s tournaments will take a year to heal. She also thinks that her own game is ready for the next level, affirming that this is her year to dominate the LPGA Tour..and that includes toppling Lorena Ochoa! At least Davies understands what it takes to win, but, at forty-four years old and with a plethora of new stars on the horizon as well as Annika Sorenstam back in form, the LET star is going to have her hands full.

****************************************

The Odyssey two-ball putter has become a mainstay on the PGA Tour. From professional golfers to amateurs, all gain assistance from the golfball-sized white discs on top of the clubface which help align a ball to its target.

Where the design was initially unusual, the technology which offered exceptional resiliency and performance also became the backbone of Odyssey’s line-up of putters. And, with the introduction of the elasticore multi layer insert technology, the advancements are noticeable.

With the introduction of the Divine Line of putters designed specifically for women, I wondered if I would notice a difference between the new White Hot XG and the Divine, or if one should rely on a putter’s performance predominantly based upon the length of its shaft?

This question, and more, are answered in this week’s golf podcast.

Tiger Woods took questions from reporters for the first time in four months Sunday, saying “I’ve done some pretty bad things in my life” and that he doesn’t know what kind of reception he’ll get when he returns to competitive golf at the Masters.
With a title like that you would naturally expect this lesson to be about golf, and you’d be partially right. It is and it isn’t. It’s about golf, but it’s not about swing thoughts or how to error-proof your putting. Instead, this Lesson from Tiger Woods is about Welcoming Your Butterflies.

When Tiger was about to return to competitive golf after nearly eight months absence following knee surgery, he talked about the layoff. Said Tiger: “I miss that rush of playing and competing, I really do. Getting on that first tee and feeling it. This is what I do for a living and this is what I’ve wanted to do my entire life. And not being able to do it at the highest level was frustrating at times.”

It was about then that someone in the press corps had the temerity to ask the greatest golfer of his generation whether he just might be a bit nervous. “The day that I’m not nervous is the day I quit. To me, nerves are great. That means you care. I care about what I do and I take great pride in what I do. So, of course I’ll be nervous. That’s the greatest thing about it is to feel that; to feel that rush.”

It is Tiger’s ability to channel his nervousness, combined with his skill and work ethic that has made him a World Class athlete, the winner of 14 major tournaments and a seemingly endless string of professional victories. And, what Tiger understands about the role of nervousness in golf also applies to media interviews and important presentations. As communication consultant Tom Antion puts it, “Fear is your friend. It makes your reflexes sharper. It heightens your energy, adds a sparkle to your eye, and color to your cheeks. When you are nervous about speaking you are more conscious of your posture and breathing. With all those good side effects you will actually look healthier and more physically attractive.”

Sounds good, right. But just how do you tame your butterflies and get them flying in formation? As a long-time golfer (read duffer) myself, I’d experienced that first-tee nervousness that’s always made worse because the foursome behind you seems to be analyzing ever hiccup in my swing. But I’ve also noticed what most golfers do as they’re preparing for that first swing. Most of us put our driver behind our necks and rotate back and forth. In the process, we’re simulating the turn that is the basis for every good golf swing, but the turn does another important thing: It deals with the tension that we tend to store up across our shoulders and down or spinal column.

Whether or not you have a golf club handy, you should do the same thing before speaking or being interviewed by a reporter. In the process, you’ll release much of the tension you’ve stored up. The other thing you should do in preparation for your speech or interview is to breathe deeply. A combination of deep breathing and the golfer’s turn can lesson the negatives of nervousness and make way for the positives.

Then, use your imagination. Think about someone whose opinion you respect coming up to you after your speech or interview and saying, “You did a really good job.” It sounds a little touchy-feely, but by thinking positively, you make less room for thoughts of failure. In essence, you’ll be following the advice of another legendary golfer. Jack Nicklaus, who owns the record for wins in a major (18) that Tiger hopes to eclipse, equates his phenomenal record of achievement with his ability to visualize success. So, embrace your nervousness and visualize success.

A lesson from Tiger Woods, and Jack Nicklaus.
Watch the video related to tiger woods

Tiger Woods publised his apologize statement on Saturday, his attitude is quite genuine and brave enough, he made apologize to his fans and some others who are supported him over and over again. His behaviour restored much confidence for people who love him. And I respect the conduction that he rehabilitated for Elin in his statement. Let’s see more details about Tiger Woods’ statement.

Now every one of you has good reason to be critical of me. I want to say to each of you, simply and directly, I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in. (Let’s see the Tiger Woods’ beloved style TaylorMade Tour Burner Fairway Wood). I know people want to find out how I could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife Elin and to my children. And while I have always tried to be a private person, there are some things I want to say.

Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. As Elin pointed out to me, my real apology to her will not come in the form of words; it will come from my behavior over time. We have a lot to discuss; however, what we say to each other will remain between the two of us.

For all that I have done, I am so sorry.

I have a lot to atone for, but there is one issue I really want to discuss. (discount golf clubs supplier totally support him, come on Tiger) Some people have speculated that Elin somehow hurt or attacked me on Thanksgiving night. It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that. Elin never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage, ever. Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal. Elin deserves praise, not blame.

The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior. I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable, and I am the only person to blame.

Hope he will return as soon as possible, and we know there are still some difficulties for him to overcome, but i believe that he can handle it finally.

Classic
Help answer the question about tiger woods
Is the tiger woods story an example of a double standard?
In my view I think that Tiger Woods should not be blamed regardless of his infidelity. For example when Chris Brown beat up Rhianna even though it was alleged that they were other incidents where she had hit him before he still lost his endorsements and respect and his audience. If it had been other way around Tiger Woods would have lost his endorsements and would have been looked at. I personally think if we give woman this type of privilege then I dont see anything wrong with why man should get more money than woman (especially in sports) because women have all these rights.

Clothing company Le Tigre decided to take the advertising low road when it recently put up a billboard in New York City taking a shot at golfer Tiger Woods. The billboard, which is located along the West Side Highway on 57th, read “Golf’s Original Tiger. For Those Who Play A Round.” 100% of LeTigre’s net profits of online sales during April will benefit TheFirstTee.org, an organization that helps young people “get on course and stay on course.”

One might consider this just a harmless joke about the shamed golfer to benefit kids. Taking into consideration some of the jokes being made about Tiger’s indiscretions (from t-shirts to biplane banners), this billboard is relatively tame. However, it comes off as uninspiring, and stale in its timing. At this point, everyone is piling on Tiger Woods. From when the first Tiger mistress came forward back in November, the golfer has been the butt of our jokes for months now. That’s not to say that he hasn’t brought all of this upon himself, but joining in on the Tiger-bashing is too easy. Le Tigre’s marketing dollars are better spent trying to revive its brand that peaked in popularity in the late 80′s.

This “Golf’s Original Tiger…” billboard brings to mind an exchange from the movie I Love You, Man. As Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) is bonding with buddy Sydney Fife (Jason Segal), the awkward Klaven makes a lame joke to which Sydney responds, “I still wanna hang out. Despite that joke. You’re better than that.” I offer the same advice to Le Tigre: You’re better than that.

Tiger Woods’ long road to recovery

It may certainly feel a long time ago that Tiger Woods last participated in a major championship; in fact the major winning golfer last lifted a golf club at a major tournament in June this year. After winning the US Open this year, Tiger decided to have surgery on his knee for a fourth time, with the prospect of not playing until next year (2009).

Woods originally tore his left knee ligament at last year’s Open Championship whilst going for a run – a decision that forced the pro to rest for 10 weeks at the end of last year’s season.

This year saw the return of Woods at the Masters in April, unfortunately the decision to play cost him a further two months off the course whilst undergoing keyhole surgery – a procedure renowned for its fast recovery times. The next opportunity to play came at the US Open.

Unfortunately, the road to recovery for Tiger has been slow – which has cost the pro in terms of his physical fitness. Tiger has been unable to maintain his muscle weight through rigorous training in the gym, only now has Woods managed to start using an exercise bike to rebuild his strength. The pro is also following a strict diet of raw and organic foods to provide rich nutrients to his body, with a goal to fastening his road to recovery.

In true sporting fashion, Tiger congratulated Padraig Harrington on his recent US PGA and Open Championship victories. The frustration to not compete and defend his two-time string of wins at the PGA must have been immeasurable.

What does Chris Rock think about Tiger Woods’ return to golf?
Help answer the question about tiger woods
What effect will the Tiger Woods scandal have on the sport of Golf?
The Kobe Bryant scandal and the Michael Vick scandal didn't really affect the image of the sports of basketball and football, respectively – their actions brought repercussions on themselves at a personal level.

But golf is different than those sports – it has more of a gentlemanly and classy image. So, will this Tiger Woods scandal bring down the sport of golf in a way? Or, do you think that it'll be the same as Kobe and Vick scandals, in that it won't affect the image of the sport of golf?
