It’s a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I’m more than happy to announce that’s exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all, with each song standing tall on it’s own.

Dave Matthews Band is one of those groups that have the ability to just bowl you over with their collective talent. The kind of musicians it’s really a treat to be able to listen to.

If you’re even mildly into Rock music you’ll enjoy this CD. Overall Stand Up is an outstanding release. I give it my double thumbs up. You will not be disappointed with one single track.

While this entire CD is outstanding some of my favorites are track 2 – Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back), track 11 – Stolen Away On 55th And 3rd, and track 14 – Hunger For The Great Light

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – Dreamgirl. Great track!

One of my favorite bands of time is the Dave Matthews Band. They have a unique sound that is hard to compare with other acts. They are considered a jam band, but are quite different from other stereotypical jam bands such as Phish and the Grateful Dead. Each member of the band is a virtuoso on their instrument. However, two members shine above the rest of them. They are Carter Beauford (drums) and Leroi Moore (sax/wind instruments). These two gentlemen have perfected their given instruments.

If you are just getting into the Dave Matthews Band for the first time, I would suggest starting with their earlier material such as Under the Table and Dreaming or Crash. These are definitely the place to fall in love with the band. If you have been into the band for awhile and are looking for something different I would suggest some of their live concert albums. A must have for all fans is Live at Luther College. It is a duet album with Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. You’ll hear your favorite songs in a way you would never imagine.

I would also suggest going to a concert of the band as well. You will definitely get your money’s worth. The band plays for over 2 hours and takes your favorite songs in a totally new direction. I have personally gone 10 times and thoroughly enjoyed each show that I have gone to.

The members of the Dave Matthews Band include Dave Matthews (guitar), Stefan Lesard (Bass), Leroi Moore (sax/other wind instruments), Boyd Tinsley (Violin), and Carter Beauford (Drums). Their albums include Under the Table and Dreaming, Crash, Before These Crowded Streets, Everyday, Busted Stuff and Stand Up. They have also released several live concert albums as well. There are just as many live albums as there are studio albums.

This was prior to the final recording of the Crash album. Lyrics and music (particularly the end) are slightly different. This was the 7th time it was played live. As of this posting Too Much has been played 671 times live not counting fake versions (61). Synced taper audio to the VHS source (cred: Willndmb). There were a couple glitches in the video.

Next year DMB are to celebrate a 20th anniversary. For this purpose a DMB fan and freelance writer Nikki Van Noy is writing a book following the art of the band from their earliest years up to their 2010 tour. She’s currently travelling and talking with DMB fans in Europe and wants to make the connection between the band and their fan-base the main focus of her book. But despite being here for a couple of decades, Dave Matthews Band are no strangers to the new technologies or at least they make the most of them. The latest achievements in 3D technology and precise post production have been provided by Evergreen Films and Integrated Media Technologies for the filming of “Larger Then Life In 3D: Dave Matthews Band.” Emmy-award-winning director and founder of Evergreen Films Pierre de Lespinois helped create a digital 3D movie that will take fans straight onstage and will show them a full 360 degree view of Dave Matthews Band performances. Their 2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival appearance is in the centre of the film that will be released in theatres later this year. Fans shouldn’t miss the band’s latest release, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, dedicated to the late band member saxophonist LeRoi Moore who died following complications from an ATV accident. Dave Matthews Band is also one of the bands to provide tracks for a free download organized by the Bonnaroo music festival, NeadCount, and the environmental activist group NRDC Action Fund. The Best of Bonnaroo album’s aim is to encourage young people to speak out on climate change and help a future climate change bill pass legislation in the U.S. Senate. Before downloading, an option is available for fans to email their senators or their local newspaper supporting the bill. Even if they decide not to write the email, fans can still download the 17 original performances of DMB (“Rapunzel”), Pearl Jam, Jack Johnson, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, O.A.R., the Decemberists, Guster, Gov’t Mule and more. Another non-profit organization, Farm Aid, whose members are Dave Matthews Band, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp, will celebrate their 25th anniversary. The event will be marked with a fundraising concert but the date, location and lineup are yet to be announced. The theme for the musical fundraiser is “Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope for America.” According to Nelson, the American farmers are the hope for the nation in times of such economic downturn. With the release of “Funny The Way It Is”, the new single off the band’s newest album, Dave and the boys provide us with a great tune and a deep reverberating message. This song brings to the forefront of our consciousness the interconnectedness and also the irony of the lives around us. 

He describes situations in the world happening at every moment that coincide with the other but also cancel each other out. In one place there are children going hungry and somewhere else there are people going out to dinner. In one place there is a child walking miles, barefoot to school while in another place a child is dropping out school. And of course somewhere someone’s broken heart is going to transmute into your favorite song. 

The band really touches upon some real issues in society. These are real life situations that are indeed happening at every moment somewhere in the world. It isn’t really funny though, is it? 

Disease, hunger, poverty, intolerance, lack of education and healthcare are not funny at all in the real world. All of these things are real issues in our world that need to be at least acknowledged and helped if not solved completely. It is also clear, even through the song, that there is not a scarcity problem, there is a distribution problem.

The people of the world are both the cause of and the solution to all of these problems. It is us who have created these issues and the power to solve them is only with us. We need to take steps to reverse the damage we’ve done. We need to fix the distribution problem and help the world to get back on it’s feet. 

A mysterious but credible source has come up with a way to make the world a better place. It involved a three-step action plan. To begin with, we need to support our third world countries. We also need to clean up the environment and we have to give the underprivileged segments of society a voice. These three things are what we need to mainly focus on to turn things around.

Overall Listener Supported is excellent from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Rock fan. Really spectacular from beginning to end.

While this entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are Disc 1 – Track 2 – Pantala Naga Pampa, Disc 1 – Track 7 – Crash Into Me, and Disc 2 – Track 10 – All Along The Watchtower.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is Disc 2 – Track 7 – Long Black Veil. This is a great track!

The High School Musical fever does not stop here as the highly successful Disney franchise has another award to add up to its string of honors. The soundtrack album of the Disney Channel Original Movie sequel was recognized by the 35th Annual American Music Awards as Best Soundtrack Album this year. The event was held last Sunday at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles , California , where cast members Vanessa Anne Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, among others, were there to receive the award.

It is the first time in the history of the American Music Awards that the winners of the 35th Annual American Music Awards were garnered from online voting. The fans of High School Musical took this opportunity to vote for their favorite soundtrack, which beat the albums of Hairspray and Dreamgirls.

High School Musical 2′s soundtrack, which was released in August, debuted at the number 1 spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, Amazon.com, and iTunes Store, where it initially sold 615,000 and shipped double platinum with 2 million copies during its first week of release. A month later, the tally increased significantly, and thus the album became the fourth-biggest first week sales of 2007. Within three months, the CD was able to sell over 3.5 million copies worldwide.

It isn’t a surprise that the album has garnered huge sales in such a short period of time. The made-for-TV Disney film, which chronicles the young lovers Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) during their summer break at the resort owned by the family of antagonist and spoiled brat Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), has also garnered an impressive 17.2 million viewers in the United States during its premiere, thus making it the highest rated basic cable broadcast in the history of the United States. Not only has the franchise spawned various product lines such as video games and other tween products, but it has also launched the solo careers of two of its main cast, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, who have released their solo albums soon after the first High School Musical movie was aired.

American Music Scholarships are a great way to offset the ever-increasing costs of taking college classes.  We’ve searched for American Music Scholarships and here’s a few you should apply for.  Get more scholarship money by also applying for other scholarships you may qualify for.

The first scholarship is a $10K scholarship drawing hosted at freecollegescholarships.net.  The requirements to be eligible to apply are that you have to be 18 years or older and live in the United States.  To take part in the scholarship drawing, you have to complete a a one-page registration form.  There is a winner every month but if you want to win you need to register before the next deadline.

You can also research further the Higher Reach Scholarship from Walmart.  Up to $13K are available for dependents of Walmart associates.  The only condition is that winners have to be consultants at the writing center for 3 years.

The Carnegie Writing Scholarship is another scholarship program you may qualify for.  $1,500 are awarded to the eligible applicants and this money can be used for any program of study.  To get the scholarship, applicants need to have a 2.5 or more GPA and show financial need.

You may also want to consider the Writing Center Fellowship that Coe College provides for students.  You can fund your education if you are eligible with their $3,000 scholarship.  To apply, you need to have been out of school for a minimum of one year.

Six scholarships are given away at the Arkansas Tech University.  $1,500 are awarded to the eligible applicants and this money can be used for any program of study.  To apply for these scholarships, you can send in poems, short stories, or dramatic pieces of writing.
