Box Office Breakdown: March 27th- 29th 2009 (part 1)

Every single weekend, the top box office movies are ranked in terms of the millions and millions of dollars of generated weekend box office sales. Producers of movies can quickly and easily get a feel for how successful their movie will be overall based on the box office receipts for the opening weekend. In many cases, they can also predict how many DVDs of the movie they will eventually sell based on the opening weekend ticket sales.

There is no doubt that Americans do love their movies and many people make their decisions about what they will be doing for their entertainment over the weekend based on the lists of the top movies for the week. And, even with the high cost of ticket prices for the movie theaters these days, millions of people spend the money so that they can see the top box office movies on the big screen.

As popular as movie theaters continue to be, more and more people are enjoying having their favorite movies on DVDs so that they have a library of movie titles that they can choose from. This allows people to pop a DVD into their DVD player at any time and sit back with their feet up to watch the movies that they enjoy the most.

An increasing number of homes these days are now built with extensive home theater systems that allow people to avoid having to schedule their lives around the movie showtimes at the theater. Instead of buying movie theater tickets, they just buy DVDs of the movies they have grown to love and that they would like to watch over and over again or to share with friends and family members.

These home theaters provide people with convenience and privacy so that they can enjoy their movies without leaving their abodes. Many of the high end home theaters include very large screens that rival the screens in the movie theaters and they also have incredibly good sound systems as well that really make the most of the digital quality of the picture and sound.

Not only are the more current top movies on DVD, but there are many older, classic movies being re-released these days on DVDs so that people can enjoy having all of the benefits of this digital technology in their homes. In many cases, movies on DVD even include many extra features, such as alternate languages, interviews with the director and the actors, and even deleted scenes that never made it to the version that was shown in the movie theaters.

Creating a substantial DVD library is a terrific way to have a sense that there is always something on hand for entertainment, regardless of what else is going on in the movie industry. With a wide array of DVDs in your library, you can choose your favorite romantic movie to share with a loved one on a cold and stormy night, unwind from a day filled with stress by kicking back and watching a favorite comedy show, or view whatever other type of movie that will improve your mood and make your day.

Help answer the question about Box Office

How well do you think the upcomming movie Twilight will do in the box office?
I have come very fond of the series, and me and my friends can't wait for it to come out!

My question is, do you think that it will do well in the box office, or not make any money?

    $165 million? Holy cwap!

  2. am i the only one who thinks that 12 rounds is a rip off of the original saw?
lets think, the premise for 12 rounds is: play my game or your wife will die
where have i seen that before?

  3. It is kinda strange though.

Ever since dreamworks, Steven S. started going down the drain.

  4. DarkToboki says:

Both of the productions suck in my opinion. 9 is going to kick a lot of ass.

  5. the god father forest gump karamer versus kramer shaw shank redemption were adaptions so some classics werent orignal

What do you mean Pixar is worse than Dreamworks?!?!?!?!?! Pixar has people who can actually tell good stories that people will watch. Dreamworks is the one shoving the lame jokes down your throat!!!

  7. cs112pk says:

I saw the Haunting in Conneticut today. This movie was bad representation of a pretty solid story. I mean, they passed it off just as you said, another sh**** horror movie.

You put the words “Based on a true story” in the preview, and anyone will flock to see it. YOu should be happy, the movie had a more than 50% drop this weekend.

  9. I agree with you. Why did the haunting movie made a lot of money? I HATE scary movies! So I for sure did not see it! lol And the ads for it are GROSS! I would say the ONLY reason it did well was because of the advertizing. Yup I saw more ads for it than all the other horror movies combined. haha lol DreamWorks steals Pixar’s garbage can every Friday night! Lol the unanticipated straight to DVD sequel THE 13 ROUND! mpc you are too funny. You could be a standup comedian if you wanted to! XD

  10. NUMBER 1 THIS WEEKEND!!! 70.6 million is what I heard. I think it's the biggest film, money wise this year since Dark Knight. Although I could be wrong.

  11. I think it's going to do very well, probably almost as good as LOTR/Harry/Narnia. With so many obsessed fans, the movie would have to be completely awful to not do well.

The Box Office means money – how much the movie has made selling tickets in US movie theaters. Foreign, PPV, DVD rentals and sales are technically not part of a film's box office, though they do contibute to a film's profits.

The profits of the movie typically go to the producers, or the production company, who hired the director. Some directors, like Spielberg, have their own production companies, like "Dreamworks" and "Amblin' " Some actors have their own production companies, too, like Clint Eastwood (OK, he started out as an actor) whose company is Malpaso Films or John Wayne (?) who had Batjac Productions.

  13. Kosmik Ronin says:

Only US box office figures are counted as domestic in the US. Canadian box figure numbers are released on their own, however the Canadian media tends to print North American numbers which are the combined US and Canada (sorry, Mexico), since they are larger.

The number one movie last week in Canada was "The Day the Earth Stood Still" which grossed $1.81 Million. If you want to see the rest of the list, it's at

Many beginning actors work box office because they want to be working "in" the theatre and that is all they can get. However volunteering is another story. As a box office volunteer ( or even employee) you will not be near or on the stage. But depending on the size of the theatre and the company, you possibly will have interactions with the people that are. However this is far from a guarantee. Some theatre box offices are pretty far away from the backstage area, the stage and the green room and in most larger theatres you may never even have contact with the director or anyone else directly involved with the production. You will however get to know the house manager and you never know what connections they may have.

If this is a smaller theatre then this may be a good opportunity to make connections and get your face recognized as well as showing your dedication to the company. If this is a large theatre you most likely will be wasting your time.

No, it's safe to say it flopped. The movie opened with less than half the money the other spoof movies made.

Hopefully this will ring the death knell for these annoying spoofs.
